Located in the popular Eleanor Tinsley Park, the Free Press Summer Music Fest is conveniently located to downtown and the Galleria. Grassy hills and natural grass amphitheater provide a natural setting for even the most modern of events. The Free Press Summer Music fest is a two day event which will take place rain or shine and is available to all ages. Look for featured artist Ben Harper, Major Lazer, Odesza, Skrillex, The Decemberists, Weezer and more. Additional performances by more than 70 other bands featuring Welcome to Houston, Tears for Fears, Riverboat Gamblers, Futurebirds, and Band of Horses just to name a few. No chairs are permitted so be sure to bring you favorite lawn blanket and sunscreen. Food will be available throughout the venue as will memorabilia.

There’s sure to be a lot of energy at the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival. Scheduled throughout the summer months you can find all the rocking and rolling in Texas at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillon. Featured bands include Slayer, King Diamond, HELLYEAH,The Devil Wears Prada, Whitechapel, Thy Art Is Murder, Sworn In, and Jungle Rot just to name a few. Ticket prices begin at $30 for general admission lawn seating. Bags will be checked and though vendors with food and drink are on hand, be sure to be ready for the Houston heat with sunscreen.

The Texas Music Festival Orchestra is a free music festival featuring more than 100 orchestral, chamber music, and solo performances from stars of the University of Houston orchestral fellowship program. The festival offers the chance to win a guest soloist role with the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Young Artist Competition with the final judging open to the public Sunday, June 7, 2 p.m. at Dudley Recital Hall. The 2015 winner will perform with the Festival Orchestra under the baton of Lavard Skou Larsen at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion during the June 19 performance. This festival features not just students but includes leaders in the classical music field renowned guest conductors, members of Houston’s orchestras, faculty from the Moore’s and Shepherd schools of music, and other distinguished artists.
