Summer is hot in Houston, but these ice cream sundaes and other treats are some of the coolest treats around. Whether your tastes for sundaes are simple or you want to take your taste buds on an adventure, you can find the perfect treat to cool you off, even in Houston’s high heat.
Avalon Diner
12810 S.W. Freeway
Stafford, TX 77477
(281) 240-0213

There’s nothing like going to a diner for an old-fashioned ice cream sundae. You can get a three-scoop banana split to finish off your meal when you visit any of Avalon Diner’s three Houston-area locations. This local diner uses only Blue Bell ice cream, which for those from Texas, is the only ice cream to use. A traditional ice cream sundae with your choice of toppings is also available on the menu. Other ice cream desserts you can get include floats, milkshakes, malts, ice cream sodas and scoops of Blue Bell ice cream. Kids can get the world’s smallest sundae for dessert for under $2. This tiny treat includes Blue Bell vanilla ice cream, a cherry, chocolate syrup and whipped cream.

Eatsie Boys
4100 Montrose Blvd.
Houston, Texas 77006

Made famous by its Shipley’s donut-inspired ice cream, glazed and confused, the Eatsie Boys scoops up many other flavorful ice creams. While the ice cream flavors have enough mix-ins to warrant eating them alone and not in a sundae, you can get ice cream sandwiches at Eatsie Boys as well as other desserts. You could make your own sundae by combining one of Eatsie Boys cakes in a jar with a scoop of ice cream. At the Montrose café, you can also get your gourmet ice cream in a shot of espresso for a hot and cold treat.
