Houstonians enjoy great weather many months out of the year, which means many restaurants and bars throughout the city offer outdoor patios for drinking and dining. However, the best outdoor bars in Houston are more than just your average patio setting… — Amber Hilton

The Roof Bar

2600 Travis
Houston, TX 77006
(713) 522-4900

The Roof Bar in Midtown is one of the trendiest bars in the city, not to mention one of the best outdoor bars in Houston. As the name suggests, the Roof Bar is situated on a rooftop overlooking the city, which offers beautiful views and creates a very glamorous setting. It is situated upstairs from the Reef restaurant, which is widely considered one of the finer eateries in Houston. While the outdoor bar certainly attracts many customers, the stiff drinks and retro rock music – including guest DJs and live bands – keep them coming back for more. Indoor VIP rooms are also available for private parties. Open Friday and Saturday at 9 p.m.

West Alabama Ice House

1919 West Alabama
Houston, TX 77098
(713) 528-6874

Established in 1928 as a rural neighborhood grocery and officially transformed into a beer joint in 1986, the West Alabama Ice House (WAIH) has a rich history of serving Houstonians. In order to accommodate large crowds, the building has been expanded over the years, but it remains “one of the last genuine Texas icehouses.” This open-air bar offers picnic table seating, a stage, horse shoe pit, pool table, basketball goal, and misting fans, but what they’re really known for is their ice cold beer and good ole Texas charm. Hours: Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to midnight; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 a.m.; Sunday, noon to midnight.

El Pueblito Place

1423 Richmond Avenue
Houston, TX 77006
(713) 520-6635

If you’re looking for a place to get a good meal and party the night away, then El Pueblito’s patio ought to be on your list of destinations. The food here is mouth-watering and award winning, but what really makes El Pueblito Place special is their luxurious, tropical-themed patio. Completed with lush foliage and imported furnishings (including plush and cozy cabanas), this Caribbean-style patio is lit up at night with strings of twinkle lights and tiki torches. This is no tacky tiki bar. The furnishings are elegant and authentic and the food is top notch. Reserve an enclosed cabana for a great date night experience or stop by for a weekday Happy Hour and let your cares float away in this island-inspired ambiance. Hours: Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m. to 1 a.m.; Sunday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
