It might seem like an easy culinary feat to master, but creating a delectable dog is not that simple. H-Town might be better know for their burgers and Mexican food, but the best hot dogs in Houston rival those sold on the streets of Chicago or New York. – Amber Hilton

“Hamburgers” may be in their title, but where Prince’s really shines is in the hot dog department. With four locations around Houston and franchises reportedly in the works, Prince’s may be on the verge of going national, but for now they remain a Houston institution. The very first Prince’s was opened in 1934 as a family-style drive-in. At Prince’s, they don’t mess with the classics, and the hot dogs here are delectably simple, but literally bursting with flavor. Choose from The Hound Dog (two all-beef dogs with chili, cheese, onions and mustard), The Solo Dog (one dog with the Hound’s toppings) and The Bun Dog #2 (two all-beef dogs split and grilled and on a poppy seed hamburger bun with chili and cheese). All hot dogs are served with friends and onion rings.

If you stubbornly believe that there is no better hot dog than those served on the streets of New York, you’re going to want to stop in at City Eats in the Houston suburb of Kingwood. They’ve only been serving H-Town for a few years, but within months of their grand opening, they were voted the “best hot dog in Texas.” What’s their secret? Owners Jim and Bob have 100% all-beef Sabrett hot dogs shipped directly from New Jersey. These little puppies “pop” when you bite them, just like a true New York hot dog should. All your favorite toppings are offered here as well, including chili, spicy brown mustard, ketchup, chopped onion, mayo, relish, cheese, sauerkraut and onion sauce. City Eats also offers catering, and you can get one of their Sabrett hot dogs delivered fresh to your door. Restaurant hours: Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Closed on Sunday. Delivery hours: Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
