HOUSTON (CBS HOUSTON) – The renaissance of Erick “Cubo” Torres has been one of the many bright spots this season for the Houston Dynamo. On Tuesday Major League Soccer announced that Torres has been named MLS Player of the Week for the week ending April 2nd.

It’s the second time Torres has won the honor in his career. His last player of the week award came in Week 17 of 2014 season as a member of Chivas USA.

Torres shouldered the scoring load on Saturday for the Dynamo due to Romell Quioto’s shoulder injury. He tallied just the second hat trick in MLS history by a Mexican player against the New York Red Bulls at BBVA Compass Stadium. The final goal coming on a free kick in the 91st minute was his sixth of the season gave him sole possession of the MLS scoring lead.

The Dynamo are second in the Western Conference with nine points and a 3-0-1 record. Houston will travel to Foxboro on Saturday to face the Revolution for a 1pm first kick.
