Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – The Houston Astros had another strong year, although they didn’t make the playoffs like 2015. That is shown by the team being up for awards during the awards season. Three players are up for Gold Gloves at their position for their work in 2016.
Left-handed pitcher Dallas Keuchel, left fielder Colby Rasmus and right fielder George Springer have been named finalists for American League Rawlings Gold Glove Awards it was announced on Thursday.
Keuchel is the two-time defending Gold Glove winner for the American League and did not commit an error in 32 chances in 2016. Keuchel is the only pitcher for the Astros to ever win a Gold Glove award. No AL pitcher has won three straight gold gloves since 2009-11 when Mark Buehrle from the Chicago White Sox did it.
Rasmus did not commit an error this season in 186 chances in the outfield. He also recorded 13 outfield assists which ranked third in the American League. Springer played in all 162 games for the Astros this year and made just two errors in 322 total chances in right field. Springer added 12 outfield assists, good for third among AL right fielders and fifth in all AL outfielders.
The last outfield to win a Gold Glove for the Astros was Michael Bourn who won two consecutive in 2009-10. Cesar Cedeno also won one as a center fielder in 1972-76 seasons.
