HOUSTON (CBS HOUSTON) – Things haven’t been going so well for wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and the Texans offense of late. The second team All Pro was held catchless until the third quarter in a 31-13 loss to the Vikings.

“It was a tough loss,” said Hopkins. “They’re a 5-0 team. They were 4-0. Great defense. We thought we had a good gameplan. Didn’t come out and execute. Got down 14-0. It’s hard to come back in the NFL being down 14-0.”

The Texans’ offensive struggles are obvious. It’s been just five games, but most signs of progress have been overshadowed by the inability to move the ball and score. Houston ranks towards the bottom of the league in most offensive categories and is tied for last with the Los Angeles Rams in points scored per game.

Still, DeAndre Hopkins thinks there’s time to turn things around. After all, it’s a long season.

Q: “What’s the mindset when your team is down 24 – 0?”

Hopkins: “It’s a long season. We’ve got a lot to fight for. Lots of tough guys in here, and nobody’s head is down.”

Q: “Do you have a reason to be encouraged at 3-2, even though there have been some games like yesterday?”

Hopkins: “It’s a long season. We’re number one in our division right now. Big game against the Colts this weekend and that’s what we’re focusing on.”

Q: “Does that make it easier to bounce back, because you know you have a divisional game?”

Hopkins: “Win or lose, you gotta look at the next game. You can’t get too happy if you win and you can’t get too down if you lose. It’s a long season.”

Q: “You guys have had two tough road games. Is it a road thing? Is it a step up in competition thing?”

Hopkins: “I can’t put a point on it. It’s a long season, and we still have a lot to fight for.”

Q: “Do you feel like you’re close to getting into a rhythm on offense?”

Hopkins: “It’s a long season. I don’t know exactly how close we can get.”

You’re right DeAndre. Unfortunately, watching this offense for five games has felt like a long season. And I’m not sure if they’ll ever be able to find that rhythm.
