Houston (CBS Houston) – Christian Covington entered Texans’ training camp this season trying to adapt to the league, but also trying to learn a new position.
After being selected in the 2015 NFL Draft in the sixth round out of Rice to play defensive tackle, the Texans wanted him to try his hand at defensive end.
Covington wants to prove he’s a player that not only can contribute, but that can contribute in a number of different ways.
“The fact they made the switch to defensive end this year, it’s more opportunity for me to be more versatile to be able to play along the entire defensive line,” Covington said.
With J.J. Watt currently recovering from offseason back surgery, more opportunities exist for Covington, and all the other defensive ends on the roster. As of now it appears that who impresses the most between Covington and Devon Still will be the Texans starter opposite of Watt.
