Houston (CBS Houston) – Mauro Manotas’ two goals lift the Dynamo past Sporting Kansas City and onto the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

With the 3-1 victory the Dynamo will host FC Dallas on July 20 at BBVA Compass Stadium. FC Dallas advanced with a 2-1 victory over Colorado in extra trime.

Mauro Manotas got the scoring started for the Dynamo in the 7th minute finishing off a well placed cross by Abdoulie Mansally.

With the Texas heat the teams would have a cooling off period late in the first half. The scoring cooled off too as the one goal lead for the Dynamo would hold heading into the locker room.

Later, in the 55th minute, the Dynamo increased their lead to two. Andrew Wenger would assist an Alex header to give the Dynamo a 2-0 advantage.

Sporting Kansas City, the defending U.S. Open Cup champions wouldn’t go down without a fight. Former Dynamo captain, Brad Davis scored a goal in the 61st minute to trim the Dynamo lead to one.

Both teams had scoring chances, and were playing a physical game, but in the 84th minute Manotas would score the clinching goal to give the Dynamo a 3-1 lead, which would hold for the final score.

Manotas would finish with six of the Dynamo’s 13 shots and three of the five shots on goal in addition to his two scores.

The Dynamo return to MLS play on Saturday when they host the Philadelphia Union.
