If you watched the Copa America Centenario semifinals match between the United States and Argentina yesterday, you now understand why Lionel Messi is considered by many in the soccer universe to be a God amongst men.
The Argentine striker scored on a marvelous strike from just outside the box on a free kick and assisted on two other goals in Argentina’s 4-0 victory over the United States, reaffirming to spectators worldwide once more that Messi is, in fact, the best footballer in the world.
And since it’s pretty rare for the greatest player in soccer to find his way to Houston, one Argentina fan just had to make the most of this special opportunity and meet the man himself no matter what the consequences might be.
While the fan was respectful and treated Messi like the king of the sport that he is and Messi seemed to take the whole thing in stride, the lax security is still worrisome. The fact that a fan had such a long time to interact with the best player in the world in the middle of a massive game and security was nowhere in sight is definitely troubling.
However, it all ended well and the fan got to bow before his idol and got his jersey signed, even if he had to/has to spend a little bit of time behind bars.
Hopefully it was worth it.
Bryan Altman is, for some reason, an unabashed fan of the Rangers, Jets and Mets. If he absolutely had to pick a basketball team it would be the Knicks, but he’d gladly trade them for just one championship for any of his other three teams.
