Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – The Houston Texans have released 2015 starting quarterback Brian Hoyer according to multiple reports.
Hoyer will become a free-agent and will be able to sign with any team he wishes.
Singing before the 2015 season to a two-year contract, Hoyer started 10 games for the Houston Texans in 2015 and he appeared in 12 games for the team. He went 5-4 in his 9 regular season starts. Hoyer also started the Texans 30-0 loss in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
This offseason the Texans signed free-agent QB Brock Osweiler as well as retaining Brandon Whedon, who the Texans signed midway through the 2015 season.
Hoyer won the Texans starting job in 2015 out of training camp but was benched after week 1. He regained the starting job from Ryan Mallett in week four.
The Texans now have Osweiler, Whedon, Tom Savage and B.J. Daniels on the roster at quarterback.
