Is UFC Hall Of Famer Randy Couture about to sign to fight for Bellator MMA as well?
Just a few short weeks ago, right here in Houston, Bellator staged a card with headliners Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie who also rose to fame through the UFC. This week Bellator announced that former UFC star Wanderlei Silva had signed on the dotted line and is now officially on the roster.
So what would make us think that Randy may also make the jump to Bellator to fight when he has a successful TV and film career going on?
This interaction between Randy’s longtime manager / attorney Sam Spira and veteran MMA reporter Josh Gross on Twitter. The conversation is in reference to Randy’s gym, Xtreme Couture, popping up in the latest episode of UFC Embedded. The use of footage of Xtreme Couture in UFC programming could be seen as “promotion” of Randy and his brand, which seemingly has been deemed unacceptable by UFC brass.
So, we ask, why would the relationship possibly be getting worse? My guess is that Randy is about to sign with Bellator, based on these facts:
- Randy already has a longstanding relationship with Bellator and Spike TV.
- Spike TV just generated HUGE ratings with their last card that featured Shamrock vs. Gracie and Kimbo vs. Dada 5000 (2 million +), so we expect them to keep their foot on the gas with this programming formula.
- Randy is a workhorse who never turns down an opportunity.
Expect to hear more on this very soon. – Dave Farra
