Houston (CBS Houston) – It wasn’t the most beautiful game of basketball ever played but the Rockets managed to pull out another win 107-104 beating the Timberwolves.

In the first quarter the Rockets couldn’t get much working, they turned the ball over nine times. The starters didn’t have much energy and were forcing too many passes. The Rockets were lucky to not find themselves down more than just one point as the quarter ended. Luckily the Rockets defense was strong and forced the Timberwolves into seven of their own turnovers.

Ty Lawson returned to action for his first time in three games. In the beginning, Lawson and the Rockets had some trouble connecting. It got better as the game went on but it was clear they had some early trouble with Lawson always looking for the pass that makes a shot.

Down only one going into the second quarter the Rockets refocused and started to take care of the basketball. The Rockets went from trying to do too much to just making they right play. The bench did a good job at helping them extend the lead to seven at the half. Corey Brewer and Lawson’s energy were hard for the Wolves to match. Terrence Jones had another impactful night off the bench as well with 16 points and 9 rebounds.

Dwight Howard who was limited in the first half came out of the locker room dominating with nine points in the third. Howard was also aggressive on the glass and changed the Timberwolves shots at the rim. James Harden who finished the night with 27 points had a hard time to get shots to fall in the second half had 11 points (3 of 12 shooting). Howard and Jones would help out with the scoring in the fourth quarter with 12 points between the two.

The game would get interesting in the fourth quarter when the Timberwolves pulled ahead 83 to 82, but the Rockets answered on the following possession to take the lead right back.

“I think we would have let this game slip away,” James Harden said when asked if the Rockets would have won this game last month, “no matter how bad we struggled, especially in those first, three-quarters, fourth quarter we locked in, we got stops when we needed too, and we scored.”

The game remained close but down the stretch, the Rockets executed just a little more and closed out the win.

With the win, the Rockets have now won five games in a row for the first time this season.
