Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – The Houston Cougars football team landed former Texas A&M quarterback Kyle Allen.

The sophomore quarterback was granted his release from the Aggies after being benched halfway through the college football season.

Allen will come to Tom Herman’s cougars team that went 13-1 on the season, capping it off with a Peach Bowl win over the Florida State Seminoles. The Coogs are led by Junior quarterback Greg Ward Jr, who will be in his senior season next year. Allen, per NCAA regulations, will have to sit out his Junior season before playing for the Cougars in 2017.

Allen first was linked to the Cougars by SportsRadio 610’s John Lopez. The Arizona native then talked to 247sports.com and said he had talked with Houston, Oklahoma and a few of his home state schools.
