Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – The Houston Rockets fired Kevin McHale on Wednesday after a 4-7 start that included two losing streaks of three and four games respectively.

Former Rockets assistant coach under McHale and current University of Houston head basketball coach Kelvin Sampson released a statement about the release of McHale from the Rockets.

“Kevin will be fine. He understands the landscape that is coaching. This is an unfortunate part of the business. The great thing about Kevin is that he is the same guy who took the Rockets to the Western Conference Finals.

Kevin has a great wife and a great family, and he will land on his feet.”

McHale took the Rockets to three straight playoff appearances including the second-best record in the Western Conference in 2014-15.
