Houston (CBS Houston) – The Houston Cougars are fresh off a highly emotional one-point comeback win over the Memphis Tigers on Saturday night. The Cougars are flying high, unbeaten on the year, and ranked 14th in the nation via the USA Today coaches poll.

A looming date with Navy at home is on the horizon. Navy, this season, is ranked 19th in the country and considered the only remaining threat to the Cougars undefeated season.

The problem is the Cougars have a game this Saturday on the road against the Connecticut Huskies who are 5-5 in the American Athletic Conference.

“This is a UConn team that were playing this week that’s going to be rested they’re coming off a bye,” Head Coach Tom Herman said “(Uconn needs) just one more victory to be bowl eligible for the first time in a while.”

The Huskies are the absolute definition of a trap team. If the Cougars look ahead to Navy the Huskies could easily knock off a team that mails it in.

The good news is the Cougars are already fully aware that this Saturday is a trap game.

“I told (the players) on Sunday that’s what this is, it’s the definition of a trap game,” Herman said. “This is the part of the season where you don’t take your foot off the gas; you put it down even harder.”

The Cougars are not taking the Huskies lightly, they understand the goal is not to have ten wins. The goal is be 1-0 every week, it’s uttered by the coaches, the players and the 1-0 motto is even plastered in the meeting room.

This is uncharted territory for a lot of players on the team. So far coach Herman’s ability to not let the team see past the game in front of them has worked wonders and propelled them to be contenders and to start creeping into the College Football playoff conversation.
