Houston (CBS Houston) – Rockets center Dwight Howard was back in action Monday afternoon taking part in practice and looked good per head coach Kevin McHale.
“First time we’ve seen Dwight (Howard) 5 on 5 live, and he looked good,” McHale said “he’s got some conditioning and some other stuff to do, but he moved well and he was typical Dwight, getting a lot of rebounds and blocking shots so that was good,”
Howard this preseason has spent most of his time riding the bench, he’s played in one game and has only been able to take part in just a handful of practices over the past month.
The Rockets have missed his presence during practice and in the tune-up games.
“Right now our offense has not been clicking,” McHale said of missing not just Howard but bigs overall in practices “Dwight coming back is going to help that a great deal,”
Not only is Dwight back, but Ty Lawson returned back to practice today so the team is getting healthier. So the team will have to build a little bit of chemistry during live-action.
The Rockets big man, will not play on opening night due to a suspension he received last year during the playoffs. But Howard does seem on track to start game two against the Warriors.
“My job is not to be perfect in the first game,” Howard said “my job is to sustain enough energy to go out there play as hard as I can for as long as I can, progress as the game and the season goes,”
It’s unsure how long Howard will play due to conditioning and the overall easiness the Rockets what to take with him overall, but you should see him in action.
