Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – The Houston Astros brought home their first award of the MLB Offseason Monday and it went to shortstop Carlos Correa.

The 21-year-old former number one overall pick was named the Sporting News American League Rookie of the Year.

Correa, the youngest position player in the Major Leagues this season, hit .279 with 22 doubles, 22 home runs and 68 RBI after his June 8th call-up.

He is the ninth player in Astros franchise history to win the Sporting News  Rookie of the Year, following in the footsteps of Willy Taveras (2005) Jeff Bagwell (1991), Jeffrey Leonard (1979), Greg Gross (1974), Joe Morgan (1965), Roy Oswalt (2001), Al Osuna (1991) and Tom Griffin (1969).
