ATLANTA (CBS HOUSTON) – The depth of the Texans wide receiver core took a big hit in Sunday’s 48-21 loss to the Falcons. Veteran wideouts Nate Washington and Cecil Shorts III suffered injuries during the game and their availability for the next game is in question.
Washington pulled up lame and clutching his right hamstring after he was targeted on a first down play with 12:24 remaining in the second quarter. Washington did not return to the game. He did not make a catch in the game
The Texans may have also lost Shorts for Thursday’s game against the Colts. On the final play of the game, Shorts caught a pass from Brian Hoyer which he fumbled and the Falcons returned it for a touchdown. After the fumble, Shorts was forced into the ground by a Falcon defender. Shorts was seen after the game wearing a sling. Shorts was the team’s second leading receiver on Sunday with six catches for 87 yards and a touchdown.
ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan reported via Twitter that Shorts suffered a left shoulder separation.
The Texans could be without both receivers as they are on a short week with the division rival Colts coming to NRG Stadium on Thursday night.
