CBS HOUSTON – Texans all-pro left tackle Duane Brown Thursday did not practice and it’s looking more and more likely that he will not play this Sunday against the Panthers. If Brown can’t go the Texans will be turning to their offensive line depth to help fill the void left by Brown, and a bi-product of Brown missing the start could be some potential offensive line mixing.

With Xavier Su’a-Filo also likely to miss a second game, the tame added another lineman in Oday Aboushi a waiver wire pickup from the Jets. Head coach Bill O’Brien Thursday made mention to he likes what he has with the offensive line.

“I do think we have a lot of versatile guys up front, tough guys, guys that are good teammates and they’re working really hard,” O’Brien said.

Chris Clark who the tame traded for before the final preseason game is the man most likely to fill left tackle if need be.

“We practice and we prepare for things like this if that’s the case,” Clark said

While Clark is ready to step in, he’s still fairly new to the team, still learning the system the lingo and what exactly the Texans want to do, but he feels he has a better grasp on what is being asked from him, a little more comfortable.

“It’s always a good thing when you know what you are doing out there,” Clark said while also making mention he is developing a chemistry with the line.

Ryan Mallett the Texans new starting quarterback made mention as well if Brown has to miss a game the team has prepared.

“We’ve worked so hard interchanging even through out training camp, mixing and matching, just for situations like that, cause during the season guys go down guys come back,” Mallett said.

One of O’Brien’s favorite saying is “the more you can do” and during training camp lots of guys moved around on the line just so if something happened they would at least have some familiarity with it.

Jeff Adams took snaps at right tackle during the preseason/training camp but played left guard in the team’s first game. It should be noted it’s been pointed out by people who know football well that Adams height makes it a little tougher for him to play guard and his natural fit would be at a tackle spot.

Sticking with the theme of line movement, if called upon to move Derek Newton has in the past moved around on the offensive line moving over to right guard in the game last season when Brandon Brooks got injured.

Like at running back, offensive line or any position on the team, it’s next man up and if Brown needs to miss some time the versatility on the line will go a long way to helping fill the void.
