HOUSTON (CBS HOUSTON) – He didn’t finish the game as the Texans quarterback on Sunday, but he is taking an approach this week like he will be the first player under center Sunday.

“Regardless of the situation I always prepare like I’m going to play,” said Hoyer at a Texans community event Tuesday. “I’m always going to prepare like I’m the starter rather I am or I’m not.”

Bill O’Brien said Monday he knew who the starter was for the game against the Panthers. What about Hoyer?

“No comment,” said the quarterback when asked if the team had a pretty good idea of who it would be getting the start.

Hoyer, no stranger to a quarterback battle in recent memory, knows looking over your shoulder comes with the territory.

“That’s just part of the job,” he said. “You go out there and put your best foot forward and always be ready.”

As far as the ineffective offense at times, Hoyer knows putting in time will have the team running differently come this weekend.

“It’s nothing that isn’t correctable,” he said. “It wasn’t one of those things where we just couldn’t get it done. There was actually, when you look at the film, there were some really good plays too. So you want to build on those and then learn from the mistakes and correct them.”

Hoyer is ready to move on quickly and get ready for their first road game.

“It’s the second week of the season and we get to go back out there starting [Wednesday] and put a great week of preparation together for Carolina.”
