Arlington, TX (CBS HOUSTON) – Houston Texans 3rd string quarterback Tom Savage left the Texans game against the Dallas Cowboys in the 4th quarter with an apparent shoulder injury.

“I don’t know [what happened], I just got off the field,” said Bill O’Brien at his post game press conference. “I’m not a doctor. I have no idea. I’ll know better probably at some point tomorrow.”

Savage was hit into the ground by a Cowboys lineman after getting rid of the ball for an incomplete pass.  The replays showed Savage’s right throwing shoulder getting driven into the turf.

“You don’t want to see your leader like that,” said running back Chris Polk. “It’s like the president. You’ve got to take that bullet for a president . . . I don’t want a quarterback to go down like that. Never. Ever.”

The Texans played Savage from the start in the fourth and final preseason game.  Savage threw two touchdowns and had one interception and a lost fumble before leaving the game.

“He did some good things in the game,” said O’Brien. “He had the one interception. We had a tough time blocking for him. But I thought he a good two minute drive at the end of the half. A good touchdown pass to Keshawn. So there were some very positive things in the game.”

Ryan Mallett entered the game for one series, throwing two incomplete passes.

Savage finished with 18/29 for 135 yards and two touchdowns and one interception.
