These are the news and notes you need to know from the Texans training camp for August 26.

>>>Jadeveon Clowney is still on track to be ready for week one of the preseason according to head coach Bill O’Brien.

“We’ve got a good plan in place for him from a medical perspective…A little bit more every day. I think yesterday he had a certain amount of reps today he had a little bit more.”

O’Brien said he thinks Clowney’s desire for more reps is a good sign of his health.

>>>Clowney joked that he was shocked that O’Brien said he was on track for the first team.

“I’m working hard,” he said. “Coming out here with the team, I’m doing good, feeling good so just trying to keep working and get better and better every day and hopefully lead up to me playing the first game.”

He said he hasn’t been worried about his knee. The knowledge of the defense is coming around now that he has been out there practicing. It didn’t seem like Clowney had any expectation of playing in the preseason.

>>>Benardrick McKinney remains out of practice as does Xavier Su’a-Filo. O’Brien said the hope is that both will be able to take snaps in the preseason game against the Cowboys in Dallas next week.

>>>O’Brien said the team’s preparation this week is a lot like a regular season game week but that the game in New Orleans against the Saints would be closer to preseason games one and two. He did note there were still positions that needed to be decided and those players would play a lot.

>>>Louis Nix and Jeff Adams are both getting better thanks to being at practice according to O’Brien. He mentioned they both still had work to do.

>>>Brian Hoyer is fitting in just fine with the first unit according to the head coach.

“You can sense a little bit better rhythm with the offensive line and the communication and the receivers and the tight ends and the backs, yeah I can sense a little bit better rhythm but we have a ways to go.”

He stressed the focus now is avoiding any setbacks.

>>>J.J. Watt lets teammates share his bed that he has at the facility, but not when he is using it. He also said the training staff and equipment staff sometimes use it as well since they have such long nights.

He jokingly encouraged adding a bed if possible to your place of employment.

“I advocate highly for naps in the workplace.”

>>>Vince Wilfork was impressed with how the Texans look right now on paper but noted the results are what matter the most.

“I mean on paper we pretty stacked,” he said. “I’ve been around some teams where we was really stacked on paper and we couldn’t get it done.”

“We don’t play games on paper,” said J.J. Watt. “We have to go out there and we have to execute.”

>>>Wilfork isn’t worried about not playing many if any preseason snaps, he said the game simulation in practice works for him.

>>>He heaped praise on his fellow defensive lineman. He said Louis Nix and rookie Chrisitan Covington work hard. He went on to say he enjoys working with Covington and knows he is on the right path as far as work ethic and desire.

Wilfork did say that he sometimes lets the rookies learn on their own and that he can’t always “hold their hand all day” and it’s up to the rookies to take some initiative to learn how to be a professional as Wilfork put it.
