Working in the technology sector requires you to maintain an understanding of current trends and knowledge of how technology can integrate into the business world. This integration is very present in tech recruitment, where you must understand what technological skills are needed for a role as well as who would succeed in it. Kashif Aktab talks about his career in technology recruiting.

What does your current job entail?

“My most recent venture is as CEO and co-founder of Houston headquartered company SkillGigs. At SkillGigs, we unite job seekers in the technology and health care realms directly with employers, making the job search and salary negotiation a completely transparent process. SkillGigs allows employers to bid on candidates based on their skill-sets. Our proprietary 3-D resume does exactly that, highlighting skills that are leveraged most frequently by employees throughout their careers. Quite simply, SkillGigs is a platform that connects talent with the employers by removing the layers of middlemen – ultimately allowing the employee to keep more of what they earn.”

What is your favorite part of your daily duties?

“What I truly get the most satisfaction from is connecting people. Helping people find their perfect job with a salary they deserve is why I founded this company.”

Do you feel your education prepared you for your current role?

“Education is certainly important when it comes to training and leading a company – and my business background has helped me grow several successful companies. That being said, real-life experience in today’s fast-paced world of business is a critical component of success. I learn something new everyday that I apply to make my business stronger.”

Do you have any advice for people wanting to pursue a similar career?

“Make sure you are constantly updating your knowledge through continuing education, research, and reading. When you apply for a tech job it’s also important to understand your value. The unemployment rate in the tech field is only three percent so there are more jobs than qualified candidates. SkillGigs provides a real market value for your skills so you can make sure you are being paid fairly when you find that perfect match, which is an asset when looking for the perfect tech job.”
