Here are the notes, quotes, and need-to-know information from day two of Texans training camp.

>>>Lonnie Ballentine didn’t practice today and Akeem Dent and Jadeveon Clowney remain on the PUP list.

>>>Bill O’Brien is not happy with the way people discuss his quarterbacks.

>>>Ryan Mallett looked much better today than he did yesterday as he worked with the first team. He still had a slight issue or two on some passes but was worlds better than yesterday’s performance. He had a great deep throw that was hauled in by DeAndre Hopkins for a touchdown.

>>>Brian Hoyer didn’t have a bad day but with Mallett’s good day you could argue ineffectiveness stood out. Hoyer spiked a few footballs and had some timing issues with some of the backup wide receivers which resulted in errant throws to no one. His day was comparable to the first day.

>>>Clowney coming? Bill O’Brien thinks so.

>>>Andre Hal at safety, Jeff Adams at left guard, and Nate Washington at the wide receiver spot opposite Hopkins all again played with the first team.

>>>The secondary has a lot more active bodies than last year. Of course there are the re-signed veterans of Kareem Jackson and Jonathan Joseph but so many bodies see time defending passes. Charles James has made his presence felt a time or two and A.J. Bouye stands out more than a few times.

>>>Rookie Kevin Johnson may have gotten the offense’s attention yesterday. He was very physical and made a lot of plays but today he was the subject of some return physicality and the victim of a would be posterizing by undrafted free agent tight end Mike McFarland.

>>>Speaking of McFarland, he had a nice day logging a few notable catches. In addition to his corner touchdown on Kevin Johnson, he also made a strong play over safety Terrance Parks.

>>>Safety Eddie pleasant had a good day in coverage. He broke up multiple passes in both 1 on 1 drills and 11 on 11.

>>>Vince Wilfork is helping out the defensive line in more ways than eating blockers.

>>>Wilfork’s size is impressive but Jeoffrey Pagan draws your gaze at times and is someone to keep an eye on. The sixth round pick out of Alabama from last year’s draft is listed at 310 pounds but doesn’t look hefty or slow.

>>>The Texans will practice at night tomorrow for the first time under Bill O’Brien. It will also be the first time they practice in full pads.
