In “The B-Straw and Pauly G Bracket”, Paul Gallant and Brien Straw create tournaments – in the world of sports and beyond – where only one can prevail. They accept listener and reader nominations every week, announcing the topic every Monday at 9 PM CT on “B-Straw and Pauly G”.

This week’s topic was inspired by Sunday’s season 2 debut of True Detective. And . . . well, the disappointment it’s supposedly been.

True Detective’s pilot season – starring McConaissance-mode Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson – was a thing of beauty. It also was a one season event, meaning the deck is stacked against Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, and showrunner Nic Pizzolatto to WOW us this summer. THAT . . . is the nature of every movie or television sequel.

I’m willing to be patient with this year’s iteration of True Detective. After all, it took about 2.5 episodes – AND a ridiculous tracking shot – for the show to pull me in last year.

That said, the movie sequels below deserved ZERO tolerance.

1. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Star Wars fans waited 16 years for a new movie. They got Jar Jar Binks. And probably could have waited longer.

2. Batman and Robin

Why was Joel Schumacher so obsessed with nipples?

3. Every Comedy Sequel Ever

Name one that has matched its predecessor.

4. Spiderman 3

Sadly, Tobey’s strut was unintentionally this movie’s best part.

5. Speed 2: Cruise Control

It’s on a boat!

6. Troll 2

7. Triple X: State of The Union

Do I need to write anything after what you just saw above?

8. The Godfather Part 3

I’ve heard so many bad things about the movie, I’ve refused to see it.

Listener and reader nominations will be accepted until Thursday at midnight. Friday at 9 PM CT on “B-Straw and Pauly G”, a “Championship” will be won.
