HOUSTON (CBS HOUSTON) – The Astros were blown out 11-3 by the Rangers on Wednesday night.
“This is just a series to forget, a day to forget,” A.J. Hinch said afterwards.
It didn’t take long for the ugliness to begin.
Starting pitcher Samuel Deduno gave up two home runs in the second inning, one to Carlos Peguero and one to Shin-Soo Choo. That made it 4-0 Rangers.
The damage continued with two runs in the third when a wild pitch scored a run, followed by a RBI double by Robinson Chirinos.
Deduno was finally chased in the fifth when the Rangers scored four more runs to make it 10-0. Chirinos provided the big blow with a two-run double. Chirinos wound up with three RBI on the night. Peguero finished with two home runs.
“They (swung) pretty good today,” Deduno said. “Like, the fastball, curveball, they hit is pretty hard.”
Houston scored all of its runs in the eighth and ninth innings. Jonathan Villar drove in the Astros’ first run with a RBI single in the eighth. Chris Carter hit a two-run home run for the final margin in the ninth.
This loss completes a sweep to the Rangers in which the Astros were outscored 20-5 in the three games.
