DALLAS (CBS HOUSTON) – Mavericks Head Coach Rick Carlisle has ruled disgruntled point guard Rajon Rondo indefinitely and will likely be out for the remainder for Dallas’ first-round series with the Houston Rockets due to a back injury. The news was first reported by ESPN.com’s Marc Stein.
Rondo played just 10 minutes in the Mavericks 111-99 loss to the Rockets on Tuesday and was benched after picking up two quick fouls and a technical as the second half began.
There have been several dust-ups throughout the season between Rondo and Carlisle and it seemed that it may have continued into Game 2.
Carlisle told reporters after the game when asked about Rondo “This isn’t about one guy who did or didn’t play. This is about everybody pulling in the same direction for the organization. That’s what it’s about.”
Carlisle is expected to start JJ Barea at point guard as the series shifts to Dallas for Game 3 with the Mavericks down 2-0 in the best-of-seven series.
Rondo, who was acquired mid-season by the Mavericks in a trade with the Celtics, will be a free agent at the end of the season.
The Mavericks will also be without former Rockets and star small forward Chandler Parsons for the remainder of the season with a knee injury. The Mavericks are also expected to announce the status of
