HOUSTON (CBS HOUSTON) – With a back-to-back set just beginning for the Rockets, it was confirmed shortly before gametime that Dwight Howard will sit out Wednesday’s game against the Kings.

This means the Rockets are saving their center for Thursday’s matchup in Dallas against the Mavericks.

Howard’s playing time has been monitored ever since he came back from a knee injury that forced him to miss 26 games. Howard hasn’t played more than 20 minutes in a game in the three games since his return to the lineup on March 25. The plan for now has been to avoid playing Howard on both games of a back to back. For example, Howard sat out Monday’s game against the Raptors after playing the previous night against the Wizards.

For the season, Howard is averaging 15.9 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks in 35 games.
