Houston (CBS Houston) – Bill O’Brien first year as the head coach of the Texans has had its ups and downs. Jadeveon Clowney has been a non-factor and the team has lost it’s top three quarterbacks. They’ve also managed to win seven games with a chance to finish above .500.
So how does O’Brien rate his performance?
“Overall, for the first year of this staff, I think we’ve done a pretty damn good job of coaching this team,” O’Brien said on the Texans Radio coaches show on SportsRadio 610. “We’re proud of this team. These guys have really given us good effort and these guys have really bought in to what we’re trying to do, which is hard work, compete, play tough, and play smart. It hasn’t always looked that way but I still think we’re in a position to be playing something in January, so at the end of the day that’s pretty good in my book.”
Bob McNair paid a steep price to get O’Brien out of his contract at Penn State and has shown extreme loyalty to coaches in the past. O’Brien seems confident of the job he’s done through 14 games.
