SAN ANTONIO (AP) — An Army officer from New Hampshire has been convicted of sex trafficking of a minor while on temporary duty last year in Texas.
Lt. Col. Raymond Valas remains in custody pending sentencing in San Antonio. The 41-year-old officer faces up to life in prison after being convicted Friday by a federal jury.
Investigators say Valas is a U.S. Army War College fellow at Syracuse University and a member of the New Hampshire National Guard. He was temporary assignment in San Antonio in August 2013 when prosecutors say he went online and solicited a minor for paid sex. Authorities say the pair met twice at a hotel and had sex.
Valas faces sentencing in February, along with three other people convicted of sex trafficking of minors as part of the investigation.
