HOUSTON (AP) — A report of a pickup truck with a flat tire has led Houston police to 14 people believed to be in the U.S. illegally.

Lt. Larry Crowson says some residents reported being frightened by people jumping fences and running through their yards early Thursday.

Police were summoned about a suspicious truck stopped near a gas station in the Memorial Park area. The vehicle with a blown rear tire was then seen driving away.

An officer stopped the vehicle and a number of occupants, including some allegedly hiding under a tarp in the truck bed, tried to run.

Police searched the area and captured 14 people. All have been turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities.

Investigators are trying to determine who was driving and where the individuals are from.
