Case Keenum has another NFL job.
Maybe a better one.
Keenum, waived by the Houston Texans on Sunday in a corresponding roster move following the Ryan Mallet trade with the New England Patriots, was claimed on Monday by the St. Louis Rams.
This arguably puts the NCAA’s all-time passing leader in a better situation.
With only journeyman Shaun Hill (now the starter) and second-year player Austin Davis (backup) on the roster, Keenum may be closer to being an NFL starter under head coach Jeff Fisher than he would have been under in Houston under head coach Bill O’Brien.
If Hill were to be injured and/or ineffective, it’s very possible Fisher would turn to Keenum, who started eight games for the Texans in 2013.
The same can’t be said if something were to happen to starter Ryan Fitzpatrick. And if rookie Tom Savage were to get the nod in that scenario, it would all but guarantee Keenum with a glass ceiling as a backup.
