Houston (CBS Houston) – Editor’s Note:Camp Confidential will feature daily news and notes throughout Texans training camp.

Here is what you need to know about today’s practice:

>>>Louis Nix practiced for the first time this camp. He was in uniform but didn’t participate in almost any team drills. He was not available after practice with Head Coach Bill O’Brien saying “talk to somebody else.”

O’Brien said they would work Nix into the rotation and not throw him out there for a lot of plays right away. He did mention Nix’s availability for the weekend: “I think that he’ll be able to do some things against Atlanta,” O’Brien said.

>>>Andre Johnson, Arian Foster, Johnathan Joseph, Brandon Brooks, Shiloh Keo, and Brian Cushing did not practice. They all worked out on another field. Brooks looked to be doing more than he had in previous practices. Cushing was running quite a bit. Running back Alfred Blue looked to overheat and stopped practicing early.

>>>The team wasted no time including running back Ronnie Brown in the offense. He spent a few snaps with the first team. He scored a touchdown on a goal line carry. He looks fresh and ready to work. He catches the ball well out of the backfield. He shared the first team reps with camp standout Jonathan Grimes.

“For as far as the season and health wise I feel good,” Brown said.  He said it meant a lot to him to get another go in the NFL. He said he’s trying to be another piece of the puzzle and help the team. He mentioned the terminology as something he will have to adjust to quickly in the offense. Brown said he isn’t worrying about how he fits right now, he is just trying to make the most of his chances and make the team.

>>>Bill O’Brien made Matt Feiler and Julius Warmsley run a lap after they got into it today. He mentioned he would handle any fights between his team and Atlanta Falcons players in the coming joint practices with Atlanta head coach Mike Smith.

“We don’t have any time for fighting,” O’Brien said. “We don’t have any time for that. We have time to compete and get better, there’s no time for fighting.”

>>>DeAndre Hopkins counties to make the most of his time as the team’s best receiver. With Andre Johnson sidelined he is clearly a step above all the other pass catchers. Hopkins had an amazing one-handed snag in individual drills. He was running crisp routes and beat defensive backs in one-on-one drills.

>>>The team worked a lot on open field situations today. A lot of catching and then trying to make the defenders miss by the offense while the defense has the emphasis of making sound open field wrap-ups. The linebackers held their own against the tight end group. The running backs didn’t back down from the challenge in one-on-one blocking drills. Alfred Blue hit really well in the blocking drills.

>>>Rookie guard Xavier Su’a-Filo looked good again today working with the first unit. He spent time at both guard spot in different incarnations of the offensive line as well as time at center and tackle. Alex Kupper, who had worked as a first team guard, worked as a center today.

>>>Rookie fullback Jay Prosch practiced today for the first time in a while. He has a giant club on his left hand. It is quite big and looks more like a weapon than an injury. O’Brien said Prosch hates missing practice and wants to go as much as he can. He mentioned the club hand hurting Prosch’s receiving ability.

>>>Jadeveon Clowney looked a lot better in coverage the few times he was asked to do so today. He ran almost step for step with C.J. Fiedorowicz on a play where he would have been in a position to bat the ball away if it had come his way.

>>>EZ Nwachukwu dropped what would have been the catch of the day. He beat the defense deep and Case Keenum dropped a deep ball in his hands as he dove for it.
