Jeff Luhnow is managing expectations prior to today’s 3 p.m. non-waiver trade deadline.
The odds of a deal happening? Here’s how the Houston Astros general manager sees it, via Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle:
Astros GM Jeff Luhnow says probability a trade gets done remains 50 percent – “perhaps a tick higher”

That’s partly because the Astros roster is mostly young, cost-controlled players, the exact type a club hoping to eventually contend doesn’t want to trade.
But it could also be that, with an extra wild card team in each league, playoff races take much longer to shake out than July 31, making it sensible to hang onto potential trade pieces until before the August waiver trade deadline, when teams might be more desperate and offer bigger packages.
Either way, for an organization fresh off the Ground Control leak and Brady Aiken debacle, keeping fan hopes from floating isn’t the worst idea.
