The World Cup is five months away, but with the calendar changing from 2013 to 2014 the buzz has officially begun.

The teams have all qualified and the groups have been selected, so now it is just about waiting for that first whistle on June 12th in Sao Paulo.

With that ESPN, who has exclusive rights in America to broadcast all the games, has started their promotional push to bring in the masses to watch the world’s most popular sporting event.

Their first promotional video has done a wonderful job of that. Taking video ranging from the greatest moments in World Cup history to young Brazilian’s playing on the beach and splicing in calls from past World Cups it epitomizes the excitement and wonder that is the World Cup.

While the ad’s main focus is Brazil, showing the greats like Pele, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho, the commercial ends with the call of an American moment. The finale of Ian Drake’s call from Landon Donovan’s remarkable goal in the 2010 World Cup against Algeria, “You can not write a script like this.”

No better way to get the year going and get ready for the World Cup. It’s coming.
