Houston (CBS Houston) – The New Orleans Saints have suffered another major setback to rebuilding their 2013 defense. Linebacker Will Smith is out for the 2013-2014 season due to a knee injury suffered Sunday against the Houston Texans.

This is the Saints first year under Rob Ryan and already he has lost Victor Butler and now Smith for the season.

The Saints were in the process of moving Smith to outside linebacker in Ryan’s 3-4 defense but not only losing Smith on defense but losing his leadership will be a huge loss for the Saints.

The timing might lead the Saints to look for a linebacker off the waiver wire as teams cut to 53 players.

Pro Football Talk first reported the story.
