Houston (CBS Houston)Editor’s Note:Camp Confidential will feature daily news and notes throughout Texans training camp.

After a day off from camp yesterday and just one practice Friday, the Texans resumed two-a-days Sunday. Here’s what you need to know:>>>

>>> Running back Arian Foster was expected back at camp today. He wasn’t. Head coach Gary Kubiak said his calf – which he strained during OTAs – is fine. Now a sore back is the issue. Kubiak doesn’t think it’s that big of a deal:

“Arian’s not missing anything he doesn’t know,” said Kubiak. “Just like anything else, players need to prepare to get ready for the season and there’s nothing he can do right now, but we do have plenty of time, so hopefully we do get him back here pretty quick.”

>>> J.J. Watt had the day off for precautionary reasons with a sore elbow. It’s the same elbow he dislocated in last season’s training camp. He’ll bring back the elbow brace he wore all of last season for added protection and confidence.

>>> Linebacker Daryl Sharpton was sight for sore eyes, fully participating in the full contact AM session. Between practices he was officially removed from the Active/Non-Football injury list. He’d missed all of training camp with a sore groin. He knows the group needs to get healthy: “This is a very dangerous sport, I can attest to that. We had a couple nicks and bruises, but we always find a way to get through it and we have good depth.”

>>> His colleague Brian Cushing got back to full contact work. He started practice with his knee brace on…and as practice wore on took it off:

“I kind of went back and forth with it just to see how I felt,” said Cushing. “The biggest thing is contact period to keep it on just in case I got rolled into, but it’s not going to make any difference just running around. It’s really just based on a comfort level now whether I’ll wear it or not.”

>>> Though Kubiak wouldn’t officially rule the competition over, Derek Newton seems to have taken control as starting right tackle. “There’s no doubt. He’s establishing himself every day. He’s a better player than he was last year. He’s healthier than he was at the end of last year and it shows every day.”

>>> The Texans have still yet to suffer a major injury in camp. There was one scary moment when tight end Owen Daniels and linebacker Brooks Reed banged knees. Reed was held out of the afternoon session, but should return tomorrow.

>>> Running back Ben Tate didn’t practice as he tries to bounce back from that sore groin. Kubiak expects him back in the next couple of days.
