Houston (CBS Houston) – Sam Montgomery’s Texans career hasn’t gone as planned. Gary Kubiak and Rick Smith looked past work ethic concerns coming out of LSU and made him the 95th pick in this years draft, but since joining the Texans Montgomery has struggled to put it all together.
During OTA’s Montgomery was limited due to back issues. He then showed up to training camp out of shape and was placed on the non-football injury list. Now he’s sidelined with an ankle injury.
“He’s way behind the team, way behind, he was behind conditioning wise and now he’s got an ankle that he can do nothing about but he’s way behind.” said Kubiak.
Brennan Williams, the other third-round pick of the Texans, has been sidelined for most of training camp as well.
“It’s just tough, you know, because it’s been a long offseason and we’re counting on those guys to push players on this team and be in position to help us and it’s just not happening right now.” said Kubiak.
