Across the country there are those hidden gem sports events that you come across and amazed by. For us at SportsRadio 610, one of those events is the Delta Downs Million Dollar Jackpot that will take place this Saturday at Delta Downs Hotel and Casino in Vinton, LA.

Why this such a hidden gem? You are one step away from watching the Kentucky Derby. Think I’m exaggerating, I’m not. The winner of the Jackpot race due to the first place purse is basically guaranteed a spot in the Run for the Roses. Last year’s winner Sabercat raced in Kentucky. Some of the biggest names in horse racing will be there on Sunday and I’m proud to say that I’ll be there. I’m an event guy and the fact that such a huge sporting event is within driving distance from Houston is awesome.

Last year, the boys from J&R were hanging at Delta Downs for a Kentucky Derby watch party. Rich noticed a long shot called “I’ll Have Another”.

Mr. Lord has been known to enjoy a frosty beverage so he layed some money down and cleaned up. When the room focused on Rich and his wad of cash wondering how he saw that epic upset, Rich replied, “I like the name”. By the way, Rich also put money on “I’ll Have Another to win the Preakness so he won some more money. So we ask you Rich Lord, which name do you like Saturday at Delta Downs?

The full lineup will be announced Wednesday but here are some early potential entries:
Bern Identity
Know More
Two T’s and Two B
Heaven’s Runaway
Tree of Life

It’s an amazing day and you should take the time to be at Delta Downs this Saturday afternoon. Both Rich and Josh will be there so let us know if you are going. We’d love to say hi! It’s worth the drive to be rubbing shoulders with the best in horse racing. The Delta Downs Jackpot is one of those true hidden sports gems that you really need to see.
