The decision makers of the Texans organization will be with the team even longer. Texans owner Bob McNair said today he’s ready to start negotiations on contract extensions for Gary Kubiak and Rick Smith.
“We typically will visit with Gary first and then with Rick,” McNair said. “There’s no sense of urgency, but we want to go ahead and deal with it and put it to bed.”
Kubiak led the Texans to the team’s first-ever playoff appearance and victory last season. Smith became the Texans general manager following the 2005 season. Both currently have contract set to expire following the end of the 2012 season.
“It’s hard to play if you don’t have a coach and general manager,” McNair added. “So I guess I need to take care of it.”
