Assuming we have labor peace, the preseason schedule could be a lot of fun with one notable exception: No trip to ‘Jerry World.’
The Cowboys are out of town the last two weeks of the preseason and the Texans have a Monday Nighter with the Jets the first week so there will be no first-ever visit to the ‘Death Star’ (as they call it in the Metroplex).
Playing the Jets at home on Monday Night to open the preseason is intriguing. The Jets have the appeal of Rex Ryan, the New York market and back to back AFC Championship Game appearances. The Texans move the rock as well as anyone in the game so it should be an entertaining night, even with the reserves in the game.
It will be interesting to see if the Texans practice with New Orleans at home before the second week meeting at Reliant Stadium. It should be a light day of practice, if not a day off, after the MNF opener. Then suddenly it’ll be Wednesday which is when the Texans and Saints usually do two practices (one with hitting). The schedule may not allow it.
A trip to San Francisco is next for the week three showcase with starters slated to go almost three quarters. The only other visit to this stadium was the ’05 finale when the 49ers beat Houston in O.T. which enabled the Texans to get the number one pick.
The final tune up is at Minnesota. Metrodome repairs are slated to be completed by August 1 but there are no preseason games in Minneapolis until week three when the Cowboys visit the Vikings.
