Things that improve with age include wine and the discounts you get for being a senior. Several places around Houston have special prices and deals just for those in their senior years. Be sure to check the details because some senior discounts are available to those 50 and older while others require you to be at least 65.

Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) has three resale stores that all offer a 10-percent senior discount on Thursdays for those 55 and older. The three resale shops are a way for you to find hidden treasures while helping out a good cause. The funds raised by Northwest Assistance Ministries Treasures of the Heart shops contribute $1 million dollars to the NAM budget annually. At these resale stores, you can buy everything from clothing to books to furniture all while getting a discount on the already low prices.

Houston Premium Outlets is an outdoor shopping mall that has several discount stores located in one place. Those who are 50 and older get a 10-percent-off discount at many of the stores at the outlet center every Tuesday. Some of the stores that offer discounts at the center include Jockey, Eddie Bauer Outlet, Vera Bradley, Tommy Hilfiger and many others. This discount is only available at the Houston Premium Outlet in Cypress and not at other locations of these stores. Be ready to show your ID when you make your purchase to get the discounted price.

If you are looking for clothes, shop the second Tuesday of the month at of the three Houston Sand Dollar thrift stores, where senior citizens get half off all clothes purchases. While you are saving on clothing from brands that range from high-end to budget, check out the vintage items on sale. Along with the clothes and vintage pieces, you can purchase jewelry, accessories, home décor items and shoes, and though it’s a thrift store, you can also find new clothes for sale.

At the Second Blessing Store, the profits benefit the West Houston Assistance Ministries, and seniors who are 55 and up can get 40 percent off everything in the store on Thursdays. While the discount applies to almost everything in the store, there are some exceptions, which include computers, furniture, artwork and anything in the store’s designer booth. This thrift store sells clothes, electronics, furniture and more, and because it relies on donations, the stock is continually changing, which means that you may see a new variety of things to purchase every week. Check it out and save money on the already low prices at this upscale second-hand store.
