While Texas is not usually associated with winter fun such as ice skating, Houston does boast a few awesome skating facilities worth checking out. There’s no better way to cool off on a hot Texas day or to get into that winter mode than by visiting the local ice skating rink for fun and physical activity.

The ice rink at the Galleria Mall has been an icon in the Houston area for over 30 years and is known for providing a shopping experience like no other. The ICE at Discovery Green has returned to Houston once again. This skating rink is the largest outdoor skating rink in the Southwest, using only recycled water from Kinder Lake and boasting 7,716 square feet of ice. Kinder Lake has been transformed for winter fun and is equipped with recycled materials while running on renewable energy. Houston residents and visitors will have an amazing experience here with a wide variety of programs and events that will not only cater to skaters, but also the spectators. Planned activities include skating with Santa, outdoor movies that include a selection of all-time favorites for the holidays, live music, ice carvings, a well-stocked snack shop serving hot cocoa and Belgian waffles to satisfy a hungry appetite and the little ones will have their own toddler-friendly skating rink. Weekly special events will also include music from local radio stations playing jazz, Latin and a mix of music for skaters to enjoy. Skating lessons, group events and birthday parties are available by reservation. Hours of operation vary depending on weather conditions such as heat, lightning and rain.
