Houston has a vibrant nightlife scene as well as an active LGBT community. When these combine, you get a great selection of gay bars that are perfect for anyone looking to have a little fun after work or on weekends. The variety in Houston’s best gay bars allows you find a place perfect for whatever mood you are in, whether you just want a neighborhood hangout spot or are looking for lavish shows or fun-filled dancing. Looking for a place to dance the night away? You can shake it at Blur Bar, where the packed dance floor has a crowd that fuels the atmosphere. Listen to Latin hits, top 40 songs as well as hip-hop while you party on the dance floor. There are also outdoor balconies above the action of Pacific Street if you need to catch your breath and want to do a little people watching with a drink from one of the three bars at Blur Bar.

This bar has been listed as a top women’s bar for three years by Out Smart, which is the premier periodical for Houston’s LGBT community. The Houston Press also named The Usual Pub as the best lesbian bar in town in 2012, but whether you are straight or gay, this is a great place to go to relax after a long day and hang out with friends in the easy-going atmosphere.

This newcomer to the Houston bar scene offers live music on Thursday nights, and every Saturday is ladies’ nights. If you are a frequent visitor, you could sign up for the Venus VIP club at the black or pink levels. VIP club members get free entry, birthday specials and discounts on bottles, among other perks. This club’s atmosphere is best for those looking for a modern bar and nightclub.

Despite the pretentious surroundings, this is also a bar to go to for a good time. On Tuesdays, you can see one of the city’s extravagant drag shows called Drag LIVE! There are also other events throughout the week as well as happy hour on weekdays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. For great drinks and fun shows, check out the F Bar, that gets its name and inspiration from Singapore’s FashionBar.
