It is a day often marked by parades and celebrations, with parties continuing into the late hours. Many will choose to spend quality time with family, but others will seek out a larger celebration complete with entertainment, food and socializing. Here are five top 4th of July Parties in Houston:

An early start to your holiday celebration, Bellaire’s July 4th Parade and Festival starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Bellaire Town Square with a children’s parade. Following the kids will be a full-blown July 4th parade through the streets of Bellaire with the festival starting around 10 p.m. The festival will feature family- friendly activities such as a dunk tank, petting zoo, carnival games and more. It’s a great way to start the July 4th holiday in this Houston suburb.

Head north to the Woodlands on July 3 and start your Independence Day celebration one day early at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. This event will feature a performance by the Houston Symphony Orchestra with patriotic music to get everyone in the freedom-loving spirit. Doors to the event open at 6:30 p.m. so feel free to arrive early for the best seating. Most importantly, this event is offered free of charge, making it one of the few Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion events of the year that doesn’t require a ticket.

Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens is known for its natural beauty and it forms the backdrop for this patriotic celebration. This event includes crafts, entertainment, activities and other artistic fun. There will be a 3 p.m. reading of the Declaration of Independence and guests are encouraged to sign their name on a giant Declaration of Independence replica before leaving. An American birthday cake will be cut and served during the event to remind everyone why we celebrate and what we honor on this important day.

The City of Pearland is hosting this July 4th party, held inside Pearland High School Football Stadium. The fun begins at 6 p.m. with a VFW military salute, followed by a live performance by featured band The Slags. Vendors will be on site, selling crafts and novelty items and kids will love the hoola-hoop area and yard games. Admission is free and families are welcome to bring along their own food, if they like, making the evening not only fun but also economical.

If you have young children and want to have some fun during the daylight hours, consider a visit to the Children’s Museum of Houston. Kidpendence Day is the theme and kids are encouraged to have fun and celebrate being young and free. The High Steppers Brass Band will parade through Kidtropolis during the event, adding some musical entertainment to the day. Kidpendence Day is a great way to get a head start to Independence Day celebrations before heading outdoors for an evening of fireworks.
