Students Participate In Their School's Final Year Prom Dance
There are two times when being a high school student is more than homework, tests and grades: homecoming in the fall and prom in the spring. Even if you are not a senior, you can still enjoy your homecoming dance or a banquet from a group at school like band or drill team. For your homecoming dance or fall banquet, plan early for the places to get your dress or suit, your hair styled, where to go for dinner before and what to do after the event. Planning early will help you to worry less when the night of your dance arrives.

Harwin Outlet Mall
9507 Harwin Drive
Houston, TX 77036
www.harwinoutletmall.com

The Harwin shopping district is so vast that there are too many stores to list. The outlet mall has many bargain shoppers’ dream stores under one, air-conditioned roof. This is a great place to get the jewelry and accessories you need to accompany your dress for your fall dance without spending a fortune. Be sure to go either right after school or on a weekend because this outlet mall is only open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Mondays through Saturdays and from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Venus Hair

361 W. 19th St.
Houston, TX 77008
(713) 868-4725
www.venushairhouston.com

Receiving accolades from the likes of Click2Houston and Houston’s A-List, Venus Hair salon is not your everyday hair salon. This shop has a kitschy feel with an eclectic mix of decorations on the walls that reflect the appearance of the owner’s art car parked out front. As madcap as this shop looks, you still get great hair services, including cuts and styles for your homecoming dance. This is the perfect place to get your hair styled if you want something else to look at while in the chair instead of the mirror in front of you. The staff is also extremely friendly and professional, giving you the style you want for your dance.

For any Houston-area homecoming dance, you need a mum for your date, whether you are a guy or a gal. While it is possible to make your own mum with supplies from area craft stores, it is much easier to order one made by a professional, like MC Florist. Your mum will be less likely to fall apart and it will look better if made by an expert hand. The best part about MC Florist is the local delivery policy around the Beltway 8 and I-10 intersection. This allows you sit back and customize the mum with your school’s colors and add extras as you see fit without worrying about going back to pick it up from the store. You can still order online and pick it up from MC Florist if you are outside of the delivery area. These mums are also competitively priced, starting at $35, depending on the size and add-ons you choose.

Carmelo’s
14795 Memorial Drive
Houston, TX 77079
(281) 531-0696
www.carmelosrestaurant.com

To make your evening special, start out with an extra-special dinner at a place like the Italian restaurant Carmelo’s, which is located on the far west side of town. This is one of the few restaurants around that specifically offer a homecoming/prom menu. This menu is designed for couples, and it includes your choice of a salad, entree, dessert and soft drinks or ice tea all for $31 per person. You can forgo the salad and dessert options to lower the price to $26. The meal also comes with complementary bread, olive oil for dipping and savory meatballs.

Jumping World Houston
14147 Northwest Freeway
Houston, TX 77040
(713) 996–7811
www.jumpingworldusa.com

To burn off all of the extra energy you have after your high school dance, stop by Jumping World Houston. There are also locations in Missouri City and Pasadena if you are closer to one of those Houston-area sites. At the Houston site, on 290, you can have fun at Teen Night every Friday from 9 p.m. to midnight. For only $20, you get to jump for three hours in the indoor trampoline facility as well as get pizza and drinks. Dance music will also be playing to give it the feel of a dance club. Be sure to have your ID to prove that you are a student, and have your parents sign the required waiver if you’re under 18. On Saturdays, the jumping party is open to all ages from 9:30 p.m. until midnight with Jump Jam. The lasers come on inside the trampoline park and the lights go down for a laser light extravaganza and jumping experience like you’ve never had, and don’t forget Jumping World’s no jeans policy that is used to keep the trampolines and jumpers safe from harm.
