The cleverly-titled Field of Greens is among the best vegetarian spots in Houston, with a focus on fresh, healthy meals served by a friendly staff. The fresh fare here is made from scratch and includes raw foods and macrobiotics. Not everything here is 100% vegan – they do serve some grilled salmon and tuna salad – but the majority of the menu is vegan or at least vegetarian. Choose from soups and salads, fresh sides, smoothies and desserts, as well as vegan entrees like the green bean hummus wrap or the green pasta primavera. Many of the dishes can be prepared vegan if you like, and there are plenty of low-carb and low-fat menu items as well. To top it off, most of the ingredients at Field of Greens are organic, too. Hours: Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Ziggy’s is a unique restaurant with two locations in Houston, known for serving up freshly prepared comfort food in a casual atmosphere. Both locations have a great patio, as well as daily Happy Hour specials. Not everything is vegetarian here, but most of their appetizer menu is meat-free, including chips and salsa, spinach and artichoke dip, hummus and edamame. Some of the vegetarian-friendly entrees include the veggie loaf, veggie platter and whole-wheat spaghetti (just order it sans the turkey meatballs). The menu also includes pizza, salads, soups, a veggie loaf sandwich, and plenty of healthy sides like broccoli and fresh fruit. Breakfast and brunch are served everyday and catering and carry out are available; the Downtown location also offers free delivery for the downtown area.
