Name a top designer shoe brand. Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik, Brian Atwood, Christian Louboutin, or any of a dozen other well regarded names in the designer shoe category come to mind. Savvy Houston women can tell you the one shop where you can find them all: Joseph. Located in Highland Village shopping center, on Westheimer just inside the 610 Loop, the exceptionally friendly staff at Joseph is all about customer service. Since 1993, Joseph has supplied luxury women’s shoes to Houston’s well-healed. No newcomer to the shoe business, the founders go back to the 1930s when they stocked and operated shoe departments for many large department stores all over the United States. But like all successful companies, they’ve changed with the times. They now focus on their own stores – one in Houston, one in Memphis and one online, competing, and competing well with Nieman Marcus and Saks. To complete your look, Joseph also carries coordinating designer handbags, jewelry and clothing.

Hours: Mon to Fri – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
New York and London can’t claim all the famous shoe designers. Houston is home to our very own Texas native, designer Elaine Turner. With a clear vision of creating attainable luxury for her customers, Turner started her business in 1998. Bright colors and unexpected combinations of materials make Turner’s designs readily identifiable whether you shop the brand in one of her two Houston stores, or nationally at Nieman Marcus or Saks Fifth Avenue. Don’t miss the python patterned ballet flats with sequin accents or the playful tangerine hued thongs. Pink is a signature color, which you’ll find in the logo as well as in the flagship store. Settle in to the fuchsia sofas and sip pink champagne while you shop. Besides Elaine Turner shoes, you’ll also find leather goods and clothing under the brand. Success begets success. The second Elaine Turner store opened a year ago in City Centre. Out of towners, shop online and get free shipping on purchases more than $150.

If shoes by designers Jessica Simpson, Sam Eddleman, Dolce Vita and the popular Toms brand, make your toes twinkle, you’ll love Loop. In the heart of Rice Village, this shoe boutique stays on trend with value priced shoes, clothing, handbags and accessories. Their niche is providing au courant selections you can wear now and that will carry you gracefully into next season. For spring, look for sandal wedges and lots of flats. Loop has become the destination to support Toms mission: One for One, meaning for every new pair of Toms shoes purchased, Toms will donate a pair to a child in need. Moms come to Loop to slip babies and toddlers into Tiny Toms to help the cause. Shoes at Loop generally range from $100 to $250 at the upper end. You won’t break the bank shopping there but your friends might think you did.

The Little Bird
1735 Post Oak Blvd
Houston, TX 77056
Hours: Mon to Sat – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sun – 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
There is an exciting new option for the budget conscious shoe lover in Houston. If you are captivated by the workmanship and style of Chanel, Stella McCartney, Valentino and other designer brands, don’t miss The Little Bird. The new kid on the block is owned by Keele Loyde of Aspen, Colorado where her first shop has thrived since it opened in 2007. Buoyed by her success with upscale consignments in the Colorado mountains, Loyde decided to give the Bayou City a try. Maybe it’s her gratitude to MD Anderson for her successful cancer treatment or her business savvy that made her choose Houston as the next great place to be. Regardless, her second and newest shop opened on Post Oak Boulevard in October 2011. Loyde scours the globe looking for distinctive pieces with interesting stories. Her unlikely background in math and geography are an asset as a business woman in a global fashion enterprise. Of course, the inventory at The Little Bird changes frequently but that just makes it more fun to return to see what’s new, rather, old, rather new again.
