Former Texan Nick Ferguson joined The B-Straw & Pauly G show to talk football. Ferguson discussed his experiences playing Peyton Manning and warned that Manning is always watching what’s going on around him. He said that Ryan Fitzpatrick can make some good plays but he needs to do more than that to be a really good quarterback in the league. He said that having Watt and Clowney helps the Texans a lot, but they need more than that to win games. He thinks that DJ Swearinger needs to cut down on his smack talk and show more on the field. Ferguson thinks O’Brien will “right the ship” though it may not mean they’ll get to the Super Bowl in the next year or two.
Tonight the B-Straw & Pauly G Show Road Trip went to Denver for the third day of Texans and Broncos practice. They spoke to James Palmer, CSN Houston, who is in Denver about what happened at practice. Palmer thinks that the reason guys like Chris Myers are sitting out is because he already knows they are on the team and so he is focusing on playing more guys who are on the bubble and still have to make their mark. He thinks Arian Foster is looking really good despite not saying much to the media. He gave updates of how several of the veteran players have been doing in practice this week.
Tonight The B-Straw & Pauly G Show Road Trip traveled to Denver for Day 2 of the Texans practices with the Broncos. James Palmer, CSN Houston, had the scoop from Denver. He said he didn’t see exactly what happened to Clowney and the Texans are not telling anyone exactly what took him off the field today. Palmer talked about JJ Watt beating everyone at practice and being all smiles about it. He said that Fitzpatrick was looking pretty good at practice and was really accurate with the football today. Palmer was not impressed with what Louis Nix has been able to do so far and thinks Powe might steal his spot.
The B-Straw & Pauly G Show Road Trip will be spending most of the week in Denver touching on Texans practices there. Today the guys checked in with James Palmer of CSN Houston for his observations. He talked about all the guys coming back from injuries and looking good on the field today especially Arian Foster. Palmer said the team has felt very frustrated with Louis Nix’s injury issues. He discussed how tight lipped the Broncos have been about tweeting from practice. Palmer thinks Peyton Manning was using bit of coach speak when he said that the Broncos sucked at practice today because he was still doing well and hitting his target a lot of the time. He thinks that Cushing could play Saturday because he was a lot more active in practice than he has been before now.
Gregg Doyel, CBSsports.com, joined The B-Straw & Pauly G Show to discuss current NFL happenings. He said Johnny Manziel clearly has impulse control issues in life and in his playing. Doyel talked about the QB issues the Browns are having in that none of their QBs are looking good so far. He says the issue with quarterbacks is that it’s a system of risk and reward and that there is no way to know for sure what will work and what won’t. He says a coach should like RG3 be himself rather than turning him into Johnny Manziel and vice versa. Doyel doesn’t like talking about how many followers he has on twitter. Then he discussed JJ Watt voicing his desire for a new contract. He said Watt’s approach was very humble and smart in the way he said he wanted to get paid. Doyel said it was a very polite approach to asking for money.
